As part of a programme called Algérie avec amour (Algeria with love), the Minister of Culture and Arts, Soraya Mouloudji has given seven short films the green light to start filming.
Algérie avec amour was created by the Ministry of Culture and Arts to help women directors understand how film projects are turned into completed films. Seven candidates were selected from seven provinces. During workshops participants developed their film-making knowledge and acquired the technical foundations to make their projects.
In her speech the Minister said that “the launch of these seven projects comes on the eve of International Women’s Day, March 8th, and shows the interest the State, in particular President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, takes in Algerian women, enabling them to assert themselves in every field, including culture, the arts and film-making.”
The programme’s mentor, film-maker Rachid Belhadj, added that the seven projects “will address subjects related to Algerian women and focus attention on their place in society.”
