For the fourth consecutive year, the UK’s only festival exclusively for Arab films was held in London from September 13th to 18th. This year audiences discovered many films which have never been shown outside the Middle East. The screenings took place at the Institute of Contemporary Arts and the French Institute.
This year’s theme was the relationship between cinema and literature from the 1960’s to the present.
Fittingly the festival opened with an adaptation of Naguib Mahfouz’s 1964 novel “El Tareeq” (The Research), made in Egypt in 1969.
Alongside the fiction films, there were screenings of documentaries and shorts, plus discussions with directors and film professionals.
