Following an incomplete showing of the Jbal Lahmar series, the national channel Al Wataniya 1 decided to broadcast it again from May 22nd.
During Ramadan viewers were unable to watch the final four episodes of this series, sparking a lively controversy on social networks.
The reason for this was a misunderstanding about the producers’ contract with the broadcaster. 24 episodes were made but the broadcaster planned to broadcast only 20. The two parties then agreed to broadcast a re-edited version of the series with 20 episodes.
Directed by Rabii Takali, Jbal Lahmar (Red Mountain, in English) focuses on the district in Tunis of the same name. The capital’s oldest and most densely populated neighbourhood, this notorious district epitomizes many negative stereotypes. By making a social drama the director wants to show what life is really like for people living there, giving the area a new image, very different from the well-worn prejudices.
