A brand new cultural event will be created in Gabès (Tunisia): the Gabès International Festival of Arab Film (FIFAG), founded and chaired by Mahmoud Jemni, a Tunisian director and film-critic.
The festival will take place from October 14th to 18th. Organized by the Association JOUSOUR, the event aims to raise awareness of Tunisian cinema in particular and Arab films in general. It also wants to encourage cultural decentralization by promoting film culture in the country’s southern regions, screening shorts and feature films, documentaries and drama, made by Arab film-makers.
Thus several films will be competing for the “El Waha” Award.
The festival will also include several tributes: one to Algerian cinema and another to pioneer film-makers Salah Tawfik, Nabiha Lotfi and Taieb Louhichi.
As well as the screenings there will be three workshops: scenario, regional images and sound recording, plus an international symposium on “Documentary and Drama: Convergence or Divergence?”
