In July 2017 Tunisia was the first southern Mediterranean country to join the Creative Europe Programme. Then, in early February 2018, the Tunisia Desk was officially launched in Tunis by the head of the local European delegation, Patrice Bergamini, and the Minister of Cultural Affairs, Mohamed Zine El Abidine.
Serving as an interface between the EU, Tunisia and cultural operators, the Tunisia Desk is hosted and supported by the Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image.
The aim of Creative Europe is to strengthen cultural and creative diversity. Its Tunisia Desk will provide technical assistance to those applying for funding or looking for partners. It will also act as a link to Desks in other countries, oversee and diffuse information about cultural events in Tunisia and present a calendar of future actions in each of the country’s regions: Gafsa, Kef, Kairouan and Gabes.
The Creative Europe programme in Tunisia is divided into two categories: the first, “culture”, provides a network for professionals, supporting their projects and innovative creations. The second is “media”, focussing on the film, broadcasting and video game industry. The programme can give financial support to projects in development, or later for their distribution and promotion. The “media” section is also aimed at professionals (distributors, producers, educators etc.).
