The programme of the 26th Journées Cinématographiques de Carthage (JCC) is now known. From November 21st to 28th 300 films will be screened in 13 towns across Tunisia. The event has been decentralized this year and there will be screenings throughout the country (of which 4 will be in Tunisian prisons, including the women’s prison at Manouba). As always, says festival director Ibrahim Letaief, the aim is to “promote independent, good quality cinema from the south.”
One of the events will be the first screening in the Arab world of Nabil Ayouch‘s film, “Much Loved”, banned from his own country, Morocco. It will compete for the Golden Tanit alongside 16 other works.
Other awards given at the end of the festival are the Safi Faye Award for Best Director and the FIPRESCI prize awarded by international critics.
Alongside the competition, Medfilm and the Instituto Italiano di Cultura will offer a “festival within a festival” dedicated to Italy. Tributes will also be made to Nouri Bouzid, Manoel de Oliveira, Assia Djebar, Habib Masrouki and Faten Hamama.
