On January 31st the Acadèmia del Cinema Català staged the 8th Gaudi Awards. Two films were competing in the official selection: Cesc Gay’s Truman and Agusti Villaronga’s El Rey de la Habana. They took most of this year’s awards.
Truman was praised by the critics and won the Best Actor award, shared between Ricardo Darin and Javier Càmara. The film took most of the awards, six in all: Best Film in a non-Catalan language, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor (Ricardo Darin), Best Supporting Actor (Javier Cámara) and Best Supporting Actress (Dolores Fonzi).
El Rey de la Habana (The King of Havana), took almost as many awards: Best Actress for Yordanka Ariosa, as well as the Gaudi Award for Best Editing (Raul Romàn), Best Original Music (Joan Valent) and Best Costumes (Maria Gil and Sonia Segura).
