Jordan will be publicly recognised at the famous Academy Awards ceremony with « Theeb »
Organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the 88th Oscars ceremony will be held on February 28th.
Competing against films from Denmark, Colombia, Hungary and Turkey in the “Best Foreign Language Film” category will be a Jordanian film, “Theeb”, a first feature by Naji Abu Nowar.
The Bedouin adventure in 100 minutes
In 1916, during the First World War, a young Bedouin, Theeb, decides to accompany a British soldier and his guide. A dangerous journey in a desert full of mercenaries and rebels. He will then have to grow up, to make tough, adult decisions.
According to the euronews.fr web-site, the director spent several months in a village in the Jordanian desert to observe Bedouin culture.
Having won the Best Director Award at Venice in 2014 (the film’s release date), Naji Abu Nowar now hopes he’ll be taking an Oscar back home with him.
