SPAIN / Podemos wants to re-open RTVV at the end of 2016

The Podemos party has set November 29th 2016 as the date RTVV, the Comunitat Valenciana’s new public broadcaster, will resume transmission. Under an agreement signed in 2015, it is the radical left party’s responsibility to recommission Valencia’s public broadcaster.

The date is symbolic: three years ago, on November 20th 2013, after broadcasting for 24 years, RTVV’s channels stopped transmitting because of an accumulated debt of over a billion euros.

The Comunitat Valenciana has allocated €29 million for this reopening and is currently finalizing a law to define the new RTVV’s parameters.

Consulted on the subject, the Asociación de Empresas de Servicios del Audiovisual Valenciano (AESAV), an association of the Valencia region’s broadcasting professionals, called for a programme schedule exclusively in Valencian, an annual budget of €150 million and a workforce of 600 regular staff.

At the same time, the liquidation of the former RTVV continues at an estimated monthly cost of €1 million.
