This year’s Festival of African Film will be held in Tarifa from April 28th to May 6th and in Tangier from April 30th to May 5th.
This is the second of these cross-border events. It will run simultaneously in Tarifa (Spain) and Tangier (Morocco), two cities separated by 14 kilometres of sea. For Mane Cisneros, the festival director, the event “allows the two cities to communicate across the Straits of Gibraltar, a geographical space with very specific connotations.”
The FAF is an independent film festival organized by Al-Tarab, which promotes and distributes films from the African continent and the non-African Arab community in Spain and Latin America. The aim is to contribute to a better understanding between peoples and help the developing African and Arab film culture and industry.
The films presented will be divided into 7 sections, 2 of them competitive: “Hypermetropia”, for feature-length dramas and documentaries, and “In Brief” for short dramas and documentaries.
There are also five out-of-competition sections: “AfroScope”, focussing on a wide-ranging selection of films on contemporary African issues, “L’Afrique en rythme”, featuring films on African dance and music and “Si Tanger m’était contée” for films about the city of Tangier.
