SPAIN / Ibizacinefest organises its 9th edition

Ibizacinefest

The 9th Ibiza International Independent Film Festival, Ibizacinefest, ran from February 28th to March 9th.

This year the festival offered many films, including several premieres for the Balearic Islands and Spain, activities for industry professionals, short film sections to discover and promote local talent and an educational programme with special screenings for young people.

Six films were presented in the official Panorama section, including Raúl Alaejos’ documentary Objeto de estudio (Object of Study), which questions the way we film a historical person, based on the controversial theories of American explorer Robert Peary, famous for his Arctic explorations. The director films the Inuit and retraces Peary’s story in this visual essay full of doubts and flashes of humour, in which the viewer has to decide what is real and what is fiction.

The festival also offered “Fem-Ciné”, a competitive category highlighting films promoting gender equality. In her short documentary Les Mariées du Sud, Elena López Riera interviews older women about their feelings of desire, their marriage and more broadly about their intimacy.
