In Spain all filming has been stopped for over a month and discussions about government aid for the people working in the industry are difficult. So, to prevent a crisis, the American platform is investing a million euros and, as it is doing in Italy, is working with the national organisations, in this case Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), and the Academia de Cine y el Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales. José Andrés Torres Mora, president of Acción Cultural Española said “it is time for everyone to join forces to lessen the damage the virus is doing to people’s lives, to the economy and to society as a whole. Netflix wants to make a gesture of solidarity within the audiovisual sector, for which we are grateful, and which we at AC / E fully support, in the hope that other companies, organisations and institutions will do the same in the future.”

This funding is also coming to France. Audiens, a social protection group in the cultural sector, has begun consultations with Netflix. The Ministry of Culture and the CNC are also involved in creating an emergency fund for freelance artists and crew members.

These different funds are part of the process announced by Netflix on March 20th to release $100 million for emergency grants. Most of it is for the crews working on the platform’s productions, but $15 million have been earmarked to create partnerships with global organizations.
