After Netflix in 2014, another American SVOD (subscription video on demand) giant will probably soon be available in three major European markets.

According to the daily newspaper Le Figaro, the Amazon group plans to introduce its Amazon Prime video service in Spain, France and Italy by the end of 2016. The launch could even occur simultaneously in the three countries.

In April the Amazon Prime Instant Video brand was registered at the Institut National de la Propriété Intellectuelle (INPI) – the French copyright office. Again according to Le Figaro, Amazon could announce the news when it publishes its annual results at the end of July.

Amazon Prime Video, already available in the UK and Germany, ranks third in the US streaming market, behind Netflix and Youtube.

Like Netflix, Amazon is also investing in production, through Amazon Studios, a company created in 2010 to develop exclusive content, such as the series “The Man In High Castle”, “Mozart In The Jungle” and “Transparency”.
