Vladimir Tagić, known for two television series, Morning Changes Everything and Children of Evil, has begun post-production on his first feature film, Yugo Florida.

Co-scripted with Milan Ramšak Marković, the scenario was inspired by the last seven months of Tagić’s father’s life. At first the film follows the monotonous routine of a night-shift worker on a reality TV show. Then he learns that his estranged, difficult father has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and his life is turned upside down.

According to Tagić, the film addresses “the feeling of dissatisfaction and disappointment” characteristic of his generation. “This generational despondency,” he explains, “completely collapses in the face of life’s great challenges, such as illness. Only then do we begin to truly appreciate life and see our place in it a little differently, with more gratitude and awareness of the world around us. We become less self-centred and feel less sorry for ourselves.”

Co-produced by Sense Production (Serbia), Adriatic Western (Montenegro), Eclectica (Croatia) and Contrast Films (Bulgaria), the film was shot around Belgrade and Mladenovac. It is being edited in Serbia, colour grading and mastering will be done in Croatia, and sound post-production finalized in Bulgaria.

The production received support from the Serbian Film Centre, the Montenegro Film Centre, the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, the Bulgarian National Film Centre as well as Eurimages and Creative Europe Media, for a total budget of €650,000.

Yugo Florida is expected in cinemas at the beginning of next year.
