SERBIA / New tax incentives for films

As part of its new tax incentive programme, the Filmski Centar Srbije (Film Centre Serbia) has launched its first call for applications to international production companies.

A budget of €3.2 million has been allocated to the 2016 programme, giving a 20% cash rebate on location costs to foreign producers shooting in Serbia. Costs eligible for this reduction include goods and services, rental, and wages for technicians who are Serbian nationals or have been resident in Serbia for at least one year.

The programme stipulates that local expenditure must be at least:

– €300,000 for feature films, TV films and TV series;

– €150,000 for animated features;

– €100,000 for commercials;

– €50,000 for documentaries.

The programme also covers post-production, even if it is done outside Serbia, provided that at least €100,000 has been spent in Serbia during the filming.

The call for applications is open until September 30^th 2016.
