ROMANIA / The Romanian film market beats records

Romania CNC

According to a statistical report from the Romanian Film Centre, the country’s cinemas achieved a record revenue of €63 million in 2025.

Admissions remained stable compared to 2024, with a total of 11.2 million tickets sold. According to Film New Europe the increase in revenue appears to be primarily driven by an 8.8% increase in ticket prices.

The report indicates that multiplexes dominate market share, generating 96% of revenue and 93% of admissions. Half of these are concentrated in Bucharest and four other cities – Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Timișoara and Brașov – each with a population exceeding 200,000.

The report notes that domestic films accounted for 23.4% of admissions in 2025.

The Romanian film sector has entered a stabilisation phase,” says the report’s author Dana Radoveneanu. “Its growth driver is shifting from ticket volume to premium audience experiences. While attendance has plateaued, the market is strengthening thanks to a diverse content offering – notably a significant increase in local films – and strategic positioning within modern shopping malls. Future expansion is expected to be driven by untapped regional cities and by premium, immersive screening formats designed to foster audience loyalty.”
