Abdelhamid Bouchnak’s “Papillon d’Or” (Golden Butterfly) has been chosen to represent Tunisia at the 2022 Oscars, competing for the Best International Feature Film Award. The film was selected on October 12th at a committee-meeting chaired by Slim Dargachi, director general of the CNCI (Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image).
“A sort of psychic reading or even a deep psychoanalysis of suffering,” the story is about Moez, a thirty-something policeman with a record for violence, and his chance encounter with a young boy. Together they embark on a journey part reality part fantasy. The film’s release in Tunisia is scheduled for November 7th 2021. “Papillon d’Or” is also in the running for the Tanit d’Or at the 32nd Carthage Cinematographic Days from October 30th to November 6th 2021.
