MOROCCO / The CCM requires cinema owners to make their cinemas comply with new law

CCM

In a statement the Centre Cinématographique Marocain has reminded film exhibitors that their cinemas must conform to a raft of new requirements by August 31st.

These are part of Law No. 18.23 on the film industry, which came into effect on September 1st 2025 (see our article). One of the Law’s central aims is to prevent monopolies within the sector by prohibiting cinema owners from combining film exhibition with distribution.

The law wants to structure the Moroccan film market, hoping to make the country more attractive and thus increase national and international investment, while also giving Moroccan films wider appeal internationally.

All exhibitors must submit their applications and supporting documents to the CCM before the deadline or risk operating illegally in violation of the law.
