Liik and Fablabchannel have formed a partnership to present a new web-series by Moroccan director Sonia Terrab: Toilettes de filles.
Following the success of El’Sardines (Jury Special Mention at Séries Mania and streamed on both
ARTE.TV and TV5MONDE+), Fablabchannel joined with Liik to host this new series conceived for the social networks with 7 very short episodes (varying from 90 seconds to 3 minutes).
Streamed since July 28th on Liik’s Instagram and Youtube pages, the series was filmed in Marrakesh with the participation of New Generation Production. Toilettes de filles follows three childhood friends – played by Sofia Belkamel, Rita Berrada and Aouatefe Lahmani (with appearances by Siham Drissi, Rita Kassid and Mina Binebine) – who meet up in the women’s toilets of Marrakesh’s iconic bars and clubs to track down an aggressor. Blending fiction, documentary and stand-up, each episode portrays a friendship tested by facades and the quest for truth.
“In Morocco the social divide is immense,” director Sonia Terrab explains. “People from different worlds never cross paths. Except in one rare, precious place: women’s toilets at night. There, the mirror reflects the same image to everyone, regardless of who they are or the struggles of their daily lives. It was important for me to show young women partying, dancing, laughing and connecting, far removed from the downtrodden image often imposed on North African women.”
Toilettes de filles was co-produced by Fablabchannel and Meknech, with support from CNC Talent. The series has been selected for Web Fest, which will be held in Marseille from October 15th to 17th.
