MOROCCO / “2 Rwah” attracts audiences to Moroccan cinemas

2 Rwah

Released in Moroccan cinemas on March 20th, the comedy 2 Rwah registered 240,000 admissions and made nearly 13 million dirhams (€1.2 million) in its first three weeks.

To put the film’s success into perspective the newspaper Le 360 compares the 2024 box office figures published by the Moroccan Cinema Centre (CCM): “In 2024 total admissions for Moroccan cinemas was approximately 2.18 million, of which only 1.08 million was for Moroccan films.” Thus in just three weeks 2 Rwah sold nearly 25% of the annual total of tickets purchased for Moroccan-made films.

Directed by Alaa Akarboune, the comedy centres on a couple about to get married. To pay the dowry, they agree to participate in a scientific experiment which will lead them to exchange their souls. They have 7 days to resolve the problem before the wedding.
