The 16th When East Meets West took place from January 18th to 20th, focusing on the theme of “reality in transition”. Held alongside the Trieste Film Festival, the event brought together hundreds of industry professionals fostering international collaborations.
There were several categories. This year the Co-production Forum presented 22 projects in development from 18 countries, including 11 fiction films, 9 documentaries and 2 animated shorts. Among the titles were Koryo by Mladen Kovačević (Croatia, Serbia), Macramé by Alexis Koukias-Pantelis (Greece), The Summer Holiday by Vasile Todinca (Romania), and Beyond the Blue Mountains is the Sea by Eneos Çarka (Albania).
Another category, “Works in Progress”, with 23 projects selected, was also divided into three sections: “Last Stop Trieste” offering help to documentary makers in the editing phase, “This is It” offering support for projects which have an Italian producer or co-producer and thirdly “First Cut +” focusing on how the selected film-makers can strengthen their promotional strategies.
