ITALY / WEMW announces the projects chosen for its co-production forum

WEMW

When East Meets West (WEMW), an event dedicated to audiovisual professionals, will run within the framework of the Trieste Film Festival, from January 19th to 22nd.

The WEMW Co-production Forum has announced the 21 projects chosen from over 500 international projects received. This year’s selection includes 10 creative documentaries, 9 feature films and 2 animated shorts from 14 countries. The selected projects will be shown to over 550 decision-makers and film professionals from over 60 countries.

The projects compete for two awards worth €5,000: the Development Award given by the Serbian Film Centre and the CICLIC WEMW Award, given by the French Centre-Val de Loire region. Other prestigious awards are offered by the festival’s partners.

In this selection, Slovenian director Gregor Božič will present his second feature-length documentary, Tales of Fruits and Monsters. Just before she dies, Sergej’s mother dreams of a pear tree from her childhood. Sergej returns to the town where he was born, between Slovenia and Italy, to find this tree. But it turns out to be more difficult than he expected since even the oldest farmers have no idea what he is looking for.

Milica Tomović’s second feature Big Women (Serbia) will also be shown. It follows two friends travelling along the coast of Montenegro. On the way, one of them commits a crime.
