On Saturday September 12th the 77th Venice Film Festival announced its list of award-winners: Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland (United States) won the Golden Lion, the Grand Jury Award went to Michel Franco’s Nuevo Orden (Mexico) and the Silver Lion to Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Sacrificed Lovers (Japan).
Indian writer and director Chaitanya Tamhane received the Best Screenplay Award for The Disciple. Best Actor went to the Italian Pierfrancesco Favino for Padrenostro and Best Actress to the British Vanessa Kirby for her role in Pieces of a Woman.
The Orizzonti Awards for best actors went to two Mediterranean artists: the Moroccan Khansa Batma for her rôle in Zanka Contact and the Tunisian Yahya Mahayni for L’Homme qui a vendu sa peau.
