The 17th Giornate degli Autori took place from September 2nd to 12th during the 77th Venice Film Festival. The president of the Giornate’s jury was Israeli director Nadav Lapid, who won the Golden Bear at the 2019 Berlinale with his third feature Synonyms.
Nadav Lapid headed a jury of 27 young European film enthusiasts who are all part of the European Parliament’s 27 Times Cinema programme, a project created ten years ago by the Giornate degli Autori, the LUX Film Award and Europa Cinemas.
“This competition has always been more than just a simple contest,”says Giorgio Gosetti, General Secretary of the Giornate degli Autori, referring to the jury president.“We see it as a way of supporting the best independent films after their world premiere in Venice. That’s why we look for outstanding film personalities with far-reaching vision, like Nadav Lapid, to chair the discussions of a diverse group of young film aficionados who can imagine the cinema of the future.”
