The Jerusalem Cinematheque is hosting the 36th International Film Festival from July 25th to August 4th. The festivities opened with a screening of Parasite, Bong Joon-Ho’s South Korean film which received the Palme d’Or at Cannes in May.
Numerous sections make up the programme, including competitive categories – both international and national – tributes to well-known film-makers, screenings of emerging film-makers, a look at Israeli cinema, a section devoted to cinematic masterpieces.
France is the country honoured this year, with 35 productions or co-productions being shown, including Céline Schiamma’s Portrait de la jeune fille en feu, François Ozon’s Grâce à Dieu, Claire Denis’ High Life. The festival also pays homage to Polish director Pawel Pawlikowski, offering a retrospective of his films.
Many directors will be there to interact with the audience after the screenings, a chance for festival goers to meet Amos Gitai, Thomas Heise, Lazlo Nemes, or Yolande Zauberman.
