The 27th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival (TIDF) closed on March 16th.
Before the awards ceremony, Deputy Culture Minister Iason Fotilas praised the festival’s work and the importance of documentaries: “Documentaries don’t just depict images,” he said, “they guide us to see beyond them. They allow us to perceive the world more consciously, to listen to the inexpressible, to feel all that is unseen. Throughout its long history the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival has proved it is a sensitive recipient of the era’s social and cultural movements.”
In the international competition Amber Fares’ Coexistence, My Ass! won the Golden Alexander. Her documentary follows Israeli comedian Noam Shuster-Eliassi on tour presenting her show about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Despite the tragic news and violence, she confronts her audience with often difficult truths.
Among the many awards presented this year, Byron Kritzas’ Greek documentary, They Talk about Worship Here received the Silver Alexander. It was part of the Newcomers Competition dedicated to young talent.
