This summer Greek director Syllas Tzoumerkas begins shooting his third feature film, The Miracle of the Sargasso Sea. After Homeland and A Blast had been screened at numerous festivals, the film-maker presented his new project at the 2015 Rotterdam-Berlinale Express, the Berlinale’s co-production market – and was awarded a special mention by the Eurimages jury.
With that boost he was able to begin pre-production with a pan-European group of co-production partners: Titus Kreyenberg (Unafilm, Germany), Ellen Havenith (PRPL, The Netherlands) and Olle Wirenhed (Dragon Films, Sweden) and thanks to the MEDIA programme.
Set in a Greek suburb, The Miracle of the Sargasso Sea features a police officer and an eel breeder. These two women find themselves involved in a suicide case and discover striking similarities between them.
