A new film by Franco-Greek director Costa Gavras, Adults in the Room, began shooting in March and will continue until the end of May. The main locations are in Athens, Brussels, Riga, Frankfurt and London.
His 19th feature film is set in the economic crisis which shook Greece, his country of origin, between 2009 and 2017. The script is an adaptation of the book by Yanis Varoufakis, Minister of Finance under the Tsipras government from January to July 2015. In Conversations Between Adults, Varoufakis takes the reader behind the scenes with this insider’s account of his fight with the European Union during the Greek debt crisis.
Costa Gavras acquired the book’s film rights as soon as it was published in 2017. With Adults in the Room, the politically committed filmmaker continues his critique of contemporary society, already begun in Capital (2012), Amen (2002) and Eden in the West (2009).
The cast includes Greek actor Christos Loulis as Yanis Varoufakis, while the French Minister of Economy and Finance at the time, Michel Sapin, is played by Vincent Nemeth.
The film is produced by KG Productions and will be distributed by Wild Bunch.
