The 8th International Documentary Festival of Castellorizo – Beyond Borders (August 20th to 27th) has announced its programme. Organized by the Hellenic History Foundation in collaboration with the association Ecrans des Mondes (France) and the South Aegean Region, this festival encourages film-making about History and Society.
In their press release the festival organisers say that following their call for films they received 835 documentaries from 93 countries, of which 42 were selected for the two competitions. This year’s programme is divided into 3 categories: the main competition, with 18 medium-length and feature-feature films; the micro competition with 24 short films and the out-of-competition section which will offer a daily selection of films.
This year the official competition presents David Deri’s A Tale of Four Minorities (Israel) which chronicles the daily life of families from four minorities living in Israel (Muslims, ultra-Orthodox Jews, Jewish religious settlers and gay secular Jews). During the pandemic all of them faced an identity crisis. Also featured is Francesco Del Grosso’s Dead Weight (Italy) which looks back on one of Italy’s biggest miscarriages of justice.
Together the two competitions are offering 11 awards, including Best Historical Documentary, Best Social Documentary and Best Political Documentary. An internation al jury, composed of five members and chaired by Wolfgang Bergmann (external director of ARTE Germany), will select the winners of the main competition.
