FRANCE – TUNISIA / The PCMMO festival celebrates Tunisian cinema

PCMMO

The 21st Panorama of North African and Middle Eastern Film will focus on Tunisia. The event takes place in Paris from March 25th to April 12th.

The organisers have announced this year’s programme: three Tunisian feature films will be screened, including Nouri Bouzid’s Les Sabots en or which was shown at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival. Bouzid’s film follows the wanderings of a political dissident recently released from prison. That same night, as Ashura is being celebrated across the city, he tries to reconnect with his former life. The two other titles are Mohamed Ali Okbi’s Les Zazous de la vague (1992) and Jilani Saadi’s Insurrection (2021).

The festival will also highlight the role of archives in cinema. This section is presented in partnership with two cultural associations: Focus Gabès and Plaine Commune.

Other regions will also be featured, notably with the presence of Moroccan film-maker Hakim Belabbes, who will present his 1999 documentary Un nid dans la chaleur.
