For the ninth time Robert Guédiguian brings his camera to Marseille, or more precisely to one of the calanques or creek inlets just along the coast. Once again he is working with his favourite actors: Ariane Ascaride, Jean-Pierre Darroussin and Gérard Meylan. Other regulars from the director’s universe, Anaïs Demoustier, Robinson Stévenin, Yann Trégouët and Jacques Boudet, complete the cast alongside a newcomer, Fred Ulysse.

Written by Guédiguian and Serge Valletti, La Villa is about two brothers and their sister at the bedside of their dying father. He was a man of high ideals, and his children wonder what will be left of them, in particular the worker’s restaurant he built here on the coast, creating a brotherhood of local solidarity.

Agat Films & Cie, the producer’s collective to which Robert Guédiguian belongs, is producing the film, with France 3 Cinéma as co-producer and support from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region.
