In a September 8th press release, TV France International (TVFI) and the Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée (CNC) announced that overseas sales of French TV programmes set a record in 2014, increasing by 12.1% to generate €153.8 million.
Including pre-sales, exports increased by 17.1% to €210.3 million. This increase was driven by Western European and North American channels showing greater interest in French drama and documentary series, as well as for their animated programmes.
This year, drama registered the biggest increase, up 49.3% in a year, earning €38.9 million. Documentaries recorded an increase of 13.2%. Although the turnover of French animation programmes was down by 3.9% this year, they remain the most exported genre, earning €45 million in sales.
