FRANCE ITALY / L’Ombra di Caravaggio and L’Agnello, the latest Franco-Italian productions

At the end of September L’Ombra di Caravaggio began shooting in Naples, written, directed and performed by Michele Placido. Once filming is completed in Naples, the crew will move on to Rome, then around Viterbo, Arricia, Frascati and Malta.

L’Ombra is about the life of the 16th century Italian painter, Michelangelo Merisi. The cast is both French and Italian: Riccardo Scamarcio, Louis Garrel, Isabelle Huppert and Micaela Ramazzotti. The film is produced by Goldenart Production with Rai Cinema, in co-production with Charlot, Le Pacte and Mact Production. L’Ombra di Caravaggio is made with the support of the Film Commission Regione Campania and QMI.

Meanwhile L’Agnello is now completed. Director Mario Piredda made his film around the NATO military bases in Sardinia. In recent years there have been a high number of tumours recorded among the local civilian population. They are linked to the use of radioactive powder during military training. However, Piredda’s feature film is not about social protest. It’s a portrait of a harsh, ancient land, focussing on the relationship between a father and his daughter: the father’s illness and his daughter’s battle to save his life.

Produced by Articolture (Italy) and MAT Productions (France), in collaboration with Rai Cinema.
L’Agnello has already received the Best Film Award, Audience Award and the Young Jury Award at the Annecy Italian Film Festival.
