As every year, Eutelsat organizes the Eutelsat TV Awards for satellite channels broadcasting via Eutelsat, and this year more than 100 channels from 27 different countries are taking part in the competition. On September 4th and 5th the international jury – all working in the media and chaired by Duilio Giammaria, International Reporter at Rai Television – met in Paris to select the finalist channels. According to Eutelsat’s statement their criteria were quality programming, capacity for innovation and creativity.
This year, French channels are best represented, with 5 nominations (France 24 in the News category, myzen.tv and Trace Sports Stars in Lifestyle, France Ô in Culture and Documentary and Nollywood TV in the Cinema category), closely followed by Italy with 4 nominations (Rainews24 for News, Super Tennis for Sport, Sky Atlantic’s series 1992 in the Best TV Programme category and Sky Atlantic in the Drama & Entertainment section). This year’s contestants include channels from Qatar, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iran.
The awards will be announced at a ceremony in Rome on Friday, October 30th. In addition to the 8 regular categories, any channel participating in the Eutelsat TV Awards can now also be a candidate in the People’s Choice Award, given to the channel winning the most votes from the public. Viewers are invited to vote from September 10 to October 12th on the web-site of the candidate channels or on the competition’s official web-site – eutelsattvawards.com – as well as the sites of other media organisations such as broadbandtvnews.com, millecanali.it and produ.com.
