Since June 2nd Arte has been broadcasting the Franco-Algerian series El’Sardines on its platform.

Directed by poet Zoulikha Tahar, this six-episode, 11-minute miniseries is set in Oran. Six days before her younger sister’s wedding, Zouzou, a 30-year-old celibate marine biologist, cannot bring herself to tell her family that she is leaving the day after the wedding to track the sardines which have mysteriously disappeared from Algerian waters.
Director Zoulikha Tahar explains that, “it’s not just about Algeria – El’Sardines tells the universal story of a girl who has never left her village and plans to leave on a ship where she is the only woman, with the question: is leaving a betrayal?”
Co-produced by Arte France, Fablabchannel, and 2HORLOGES, El’Sardines won a Special Mention in the Short Formats competition at Séries Manie.
The whole series is available on the Arte.tv web-site
