FRANCE / A €165 million envelope to relaunch the film sector

Having passed the first measures to alleviate the effects of the lock-down, the French government is going to allocate a new grant to help the French film industry get back to work. The CNC’s budget will be boosted to cushion the impact of the health crisis.

Intervention by Jean Castex at the opening of the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival

It was at the opening of the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival on August 28th that Prime Minister Jean Castex announced a budget of €165 million to restart the film industry. Heavily impacted by cinemas being closed between March 15th and June 22nd, the CNC’s income has plummeted, since part of its income comes from a tax on cinema tickets. €60 million is needed to fill the shortfall. The remaining €105 million will be targeted at specific sectors within the industry.

The €165 million envelope is part of the Government’s €2 billion stimulus plan for culture.
