From September 23rd to 27th 2019, the CMCA (Centre Méditerranéen de la Communication Audiovisuelle) organized its 9th “New Writing, New Media” training workshop. Nine trainees were in Marseille for a week to attend practical and theoretical workshops. Specifically for television journalists in companies affiliated to the CMCA, the workshop provides training in the new narrative forms of web-documentary writing and its derivatives.
Alternately working in the street and in the editing room, the trainees had to produce a short themed documentary about a Marseille neighbourhood. From writing to final cut they were able to familiarise themselves with all the techniques related to the genre.
Their work also added to the on-going web-documentary “Marseille Multimédia Méditerranée” which will eventually be an interactive map of the Mediterranean’s major cities. Once back home they will put their training to good use by making a cross-media work about their own city.
