On June 21st in Rome, Rai and France Télévisions signed a framework contract to develop co-productions and increase cooperation.
This agreement between the Italian and French public broadcasting groups was signed by Monica Maggioni, Chair of Rai, Mario Orfeo, Rai’s Managing Director and Xavier Couture, Deputy Managing Director in charge of Strategy and Programmes at France Télévisions.
Under the terms of this framework contract the two companies will work on a series of co-production projects every year. As explained in the statement issued by Rai, the agreement will enable the two groups “to enrich the production of quality programmes for the European market which are destined for both national schedules and international distribution.”
For Mario Orfeo, this partnership “opens new perspectives for Italian television production at European level.” Monica Maggioni believes it will help “build a truly European public opinion”, while Xavier Couture stressed “the important contribution to innovation” which the “editorial synergy” between Rai and France Télévisions can bring.
