EGYPT / The documentary “Memoirs of M.A Draz” shown during Goethe Film Week

Goethe Film Week, organized by the Goethe Institutes in Alexandria and Cairo, screened an Egyptian documentary Memoirs of M.A Draz by Maggie Morgan.

Considered by Egyptian critic Mahmoud Abd El Shakour “one of the best films of the year,” the documentary is about an Azharite scholar, Mohamed Abdallah Draz, seen through letters, diaries, and photographs found by his great-granddaughter, Noha El-Khouly. It traces his life from humble beginnings to his studies in Paris, as well as his progressive views on equal opportunities for his daughters.
