EGYPT / MAD World acquires Mohamed Rashad’s thriller “The Settlement”

The Settlement

MAD Solutions’ film sales division, MAD World, has secured the international rights to Mohamed Rashad’s Egyptian thriller,
The Settlement.

The Settlement follows two brothers – troublemaker Hossam, 23, and his brother Maro, 12 – living in a marginalized community in Alexandria. When their father is killed in an accident at work, the local factory offers them a job to compensate for their tragic loss. In exchange, they agree not to take legal action. But as they settle into their new jobs they begin to wonder if their father’s death really was an accident.

Wanting to shed light on the working conditions in Alexandria’s factories, Rashad has drawn the script from real events as well as his own father’s experiences working in textile factories for nearly 40 years.

Selected for the “Perspectives” section of the 2025 Berlinale, the film received finance from several international institutions including the IFFR’s Hubert Bals Fund, the Doha Film Institute and the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture.
