The 3rd Cyprus Archaeological, Ethnographic and Historical Documentary Film Festival (AEI) took place from September 10th to 13th.
This cultural event is organized by A.E.I. Audiovisual Film Forum in collaboration with the Municipality of Aglantzia, the Department of Forests and Tetraktys Films. This year the festival is supported by many organisations, both national (the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth plus the Cypriot Radio-Television Authority) and European (Creative Europe Desk Cyprus, the French Institute, the Embassies of Greece and Italy).
This year’s Festival was described by its organisers as a hybrid: the films were screened live in the Athalassa National Forest Park and also online – the organisers having created a dedicated platform which they hope will give the AEI greater international visibility.
In this year’s programme there were 24 archaeological, ethnographic and historical documentaries from various countries, particularly the Mediterranean (Cyprus, Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Lebanon, Turkey, and Greece).
In addition to the screenings there were cultural activities and events specifically for film professionals, such as a masterclass by Greek director Dimitris Traggalos on documentary editing, and a workshop on pitching technique by Slovak scriptwriter and producer Michaela Sabo.
