The 16th Cyprus Film Days, co-organized by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Rialto Cinema, took place from April 19th to 28th in Limassol and Nicosia.
The festival shows current films from around the world through three main categories:
The International Competition – “Glocal Images” – highlights the sensibilities of the local, showing how film facilitates dialogue between cultures. The jury of this category was chaired by the American film-maker Abel Ferrara and included directors Ralitza Petrova and Elina Psykou (respectively Bulgarian and Greek), as well as the chair of the Belgian film critics’ association, Olivier Clinckart and the Cypriot film-maker Petros Charalambous. In the International Competition this year there were 11 entries, mostly first films, including Turkish director Onur Saylak’s “More” and Blerta Zeqiri’s Albanian-Kosovar co-production “The Marriage”.
In the National Competition, three of the competing productions were financed by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture: Simon Farmakas’ “Sunrise in Kimmeria”, Longinos Panagi’s comedy “Clementine” and “Chinatown: The Three Shelters” by Aliki Danezi. Knutsen.
A non-competitive section, Viewfinder, presented award-winning films from other festivals.
In parallel to these three sections there were seminars for professionals, courses and masterclasses, activities for children and a section devoted to films by the jury members.
