Two Croatian co-productions, Between Revolutions and The Sea in Between, won awards at the Trieste Film Festival ( January 19th to 27th).
The Sea in Between, a short drama film by Lun Sevnik, won the PAG platform Jury Award. The Slovenian, Croatian and Czech co-production was recognized for its ability to capture “the soul of the viewer […] and depict a conflicted paternal relationship”, according to the jury members.
Vlad Petri’s Between Revolutions won the Best Documentary Award from the Osservatorio Balcani e Caucaso Transeuropa platform. The film follows a relationship through letters written in the 1980’s between two women – Zahra, an Iranian and her friend Maria in Romania – sharing their struggles as women in their respective countries.
In particular the jury chose the film for the quality of its writing: “By juxtaposing unusual archive images from two distant political and cultural contexts, the film brings us closer to exciting moments of courage and fear, of hope and disappointment which accompany revolutions. It also places Eastern Europe and the Middle East at the heart of the great events which marked the 20th century.”
