CROATIA / “The Man Who Could not Remain Silent” nominated for the Oscars and the Césars

The man who could remain silent

The Académie des Césars and the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts have both nominated Nebojša Slijepčević’s The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent (Croatia) in their respective Live Action Short Film categories.

Awarded the Palme d’Or at Cannes, the film is set in 1993 in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Paramilitaries stop a passenger train as part of an ethnic cleansing operation. While they are arresting innocent civilians, only one man out of the 500 passengers dares stand up to them.

Nebojša Slijepčević’s short film is the first since Croatia’s independence to be nominated for an Oscar. It has been screened in more than 80 international festivals including the Toronto Film Festival, Manhattan Short, PÖFF Shorts in Tallinn and the Stockholm Film Festival.

The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent was produced by Antialent and co-produced by Constrat Films (Bulgaria), Les Films Norfolk (France) and Studio Virc (Slovenia).
