Organized with the support of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the National Convention on Cinema brought together more than 1,000 industry professionals.
They met in January to reflect upon and discuss the development of this sector.
There were five workshops, each one covering an issue affecting a different area of the industry: economy and finance, governance and regulatory framework, ethics and professional relations, audiences and distribution, the changeover to digital and preservation of heritage.
These themed workshops resulted in several proposals, particularly about finance. Those present agreed on the need to “strengthen public financing mechanisms.” They also suggested that television channels contribute to Algerian co-productions. Among the many proposals raised during the day, several delegates called for the creation of a film centre to coordinate and animate the industry.
