Golden Rhyton


The 2024 Golden Rhyton Film Festival was held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria from December 13th to 19th. Specialising in Bulgarian documentary and animation, this 28th edition screened 53 films in competition and 19 in the Open Horizons selection.

The jury – writer Radoslav Bimbalov, animation director/producer Dimitar Petrov, cinematographer and documentary film-maker Nikolay Stefanov, art history professor Galya Lardeva and film critic Gergana Doncheva – presented the Best Documentary Award to Tonislav Hristov for his film Geri’s Wish. This is the second year running that Hristov has received this prestigious award.

Geri’s Wish is about a high school student living in an orphanage in Vratsa who dreams of going to university to qualify as a social worker so she can help orphans like herself. The film also won the Critics’ Award.

Also in the competition, Tsvetan Dragnev’s film about the musician Kottarashky, Balkan Black Box, won the Special Jury Award, the Best Music Award and the Best Cinematography Award.
