
The Sofia International Film Festival announced the winners of its 30th edition at its awards ceremony on March 21st. The Festival ran from March 12th to March 21st.
The programme featured 145 fiction, documentary and animated films from 60 countries and 6 continents.
In the First and Second Feature Film Competition, director Ralitza Petrova won Best Director Award for her film Lust (Bulgaria, Denmark, Sweden), while a Special Mention was given to Myrsini Aristidou’s Hold onto Me (Cyprus, Denmark, Greece). Hold onto Me is about an 11-year-old girl, Iris, who discovers that her father, whom she has never known, is returning to Cyprus.
A section was also dedicated to Balkan cinema, with 16 films in competition. The Best Film award in this category was given to Mother by Teona Strugar Mitevska (North Macedonia).
