Wanting to increase its appeal as host for national and international film productions, Bulgaria is expanding its cash rebate scheme.
The cap on rebates, initially set at €1 million, has been raised to €5 million per project. The percentage remains unchanged: productions can still be reimbursed up to 25% of their eligible expenses. This rebate is granted under a state aid scheme defined by the Film Industry Act.
Eligible projects include feature films over 70 minutes, documentaries over 60 minutes, documentary series with episodes of at least 40 minutes and animation films or series over 24 minutes. The complete list is available on the Bulgarian Film Consulting website.
Since its creation in 2023, 62 Bulgarian and international projects have benefitted from the scheme.
