The Brussels Festival of Mediterranean Film (Med for short) runs from December 2nd to 9th with 70 films shown to the public accompanied by a festive programme.
Among the guests of this year’s festival are some prestigious names of Mediterranean cinema, such as Marco Bellocchio, to whom Med is devoting a retrospective and a screening of his latest film (Fai bei sogni – Sweet Dreams), and the actress Fejria Deliba, who presents her first feature as director (D’une pierre deux coups).
On December 2nd the Med opened with a preview of the latest Emir Kusturica film, On the Milky Road, kicking off a week of screenings, including some unreleased films and others which have caught the limelight in recent months (Mohamed Diab’s Clash, Danis Tanovic’s Mort à Sarajevo, Férid Boughedir’s Parfum de printemps).
In order to choose from among the eight feature films in competition, Med has invited a jury chaired by Belgian director Olivier Masset-Depasse, with Kaouther Ben Hania (Tunisia), Binevsa Berivan (Turkey), Yoann Blanc (Belgium) and Slimane Dazi (France).
The festival also has a short film section and a selection of documentaries (MeDoc) including Sean McAllister’s A Syrian Love Story, Hassan Ferhani’s Dans ma tête un rond-point, Tomer Heymann’s Mr. Gaga and Kaouther Ben Hania’s Zaineb n’aime pas la neige.
To round off the pleasures of this remarkable week there are free concerts and a market of Mediterranean tastes and flavours.
