During the Cannes Film Festival the Association of European Cinematheques launched their 6th Season of Classic Films.
During the event a restoration grant of €70,000 was allocated to restore Bosnian director Ivica Matić’s Landscape with a Woman plus five of her experimental shorts.
A director and cinematographer, Ivica Matić died aged 28 in 1976. She was born in Bosnia- Herzegovina and graduated with a degree in cinematography in Zagreb. She made five short films but only one feature, Landscape with a Woman (Special Grand Jury Award and FIPRESCI Award at the Montreal World Film Festival).
Landscape with a Woman is about a forestry ranger with a passion for painting nudes. He asks local women to pose for him. This infuriates their husbands who imagine he is sleeping with their wives.
The restoration of Ivica Matić’s work will be the result of a collaboration between the Slovenian Cinematheque, the Croatian State Archives, the Archives of the Republic of Slovenia and the Austrian Film Museum.
